No fog, no wind! Overcast, but I'll take it.:) I haven't been having a great week so this morning I turned around at the corner, but lately all the good birds have been found in that first quarter mile, so I doubt I missed much. Unexciting birds I hadn't seen in a while were Wild Turkey, Band-tailed Pigeon, and Red-shouldered Hawk. There seemed to be two MacGillivray's Warblers by the different chip notes, several Wilson's, and a Townsend's Warbler. ( The list: )

An unimpressive morning.:(

A little foggier than last Saturday, but again, it looked better than Sunday. It was foggy and quiet at the north end but the first slope and the tall pines/brush transition were quite active. I heard Black-headed Grosbeak and Western Tanager, but not the MacGillivray's or any Wilson's Warblers. I did have Warblers, though, a Black-throated Gray Warbler by the chip note, and Townsend's and Hermit Warblers by sight. The Bushtits are flocking for Winter, which is always fun and completely diagnostic, because rather than flying all together, they string out in, flying separately, so I could make a good stab at counting them as they went by. The Lesser Goldfinches seem also to be hanging out in groups, little yellow and green balls spaced out along low, dead branches. ( The list: )

Today was, I think, the annual Inspiration Point gathering of the incoming Berkeley High senior class. I've encountered this before. They are pretty noisy but they stay in the parking lot and leave not too long after sunrise.

I went down for about an hour while doing a few errands. Interestingly, again I heard, and this time briefly saw, Yellow Warbler, two chasing, apparently. To my surprise I recognized their sweet chip note. I don't think they sang this time, though. There was not much other activity, not even birds on the wires and fences. ( A very short list: )

I hope to bird this small area often, which will be quite boring until it (I hope) isn't.:)

It was clear on the way up and clear when I parked, but shortly the fog began spilling through the gaps. It didn't get very thick, and I spent so long on the first slope that by the time I walked the open hillside it was a bit windy but mostly clear, so I had a good morning. Heard some California Quail though none appeared; flushed a Mourning Dove, first in a while; heard a Swainson's thrush, briefly and softly; and three Warblers: a Townsend's, several Wilson's, and a MacGillivray's but only chipping, not singing. Still a surprising number of Hutton's Vireos flitting about, as well. ( The list: )

Interesting that for the second day in a row I heard a Black-headed Grosbeak. Perhaps they're on the move.
